We need your Help!!
We at NCBR have accomplished many wonderful things so far this year including saving over 100 dogs to date in California alone, but these victories continue to come with a hefty price tag.
NCBR currently has 76 boxers in our care and many more needing to come into our program. Over the past couple of months, NCBR has rescued many Boxers who have required extensive medical treatment.
We would like to introduce you to 4 of our most recent boxers who need some extra help, AND we need YOUR help to provide THEM the care they need.
...imagine what could happen if everyone who receives this plea contributes $10, $15 or even $20 dollars.
~Makenna~

Makenna is an 8 week old boxer pup with a fracture of her right radius/ulna. We are getting her to our vet urgently and depending on the rotational issues with the fracture, Makenna will either need surgery to correct the fracture OR weekly visits, for six weeks, to the veterinarian to cast the fracture.
We will not know which intervention is necessary until we get better x-rays but the cost of surgery will be about $2000.00 if that is required, and even the weekly castings will cost about $1000.00 with only one set of follow up x-rays - if more x-rays are required, the cost will be more.

~Florence~

Upon exam our vet's first comment was "wow, she is a mess". She is obviously emaciated and the concern is "why"? Was she starved, does she have pancreatic issues, protein loss syndrome, fungal issues and the questions go on. Her preliminary blood work looks ok although she is very anemic which may be indicative of something serious orcould just be from her infestation of whipworms. She has broken teeth that will require extraction, eye infections and was very dehydrated on arrival. She also has extensive green nasal discharge and is coughing up a lot of green phlegm, one step away from pneumonia. NCBR will need tospend quite a bit of money to get poor Florence nursed back to health.

~Charlie~

Charlie came to us with a rear leg that was severely atrophied. He had clearly not been weight bearing on that leg for some time. The shelter reported it was an old injury due to the level of atrophy, but in fact, it turns out Charlie did not have an injury at all.
We got him to our vet and did the basic interventions including X-rays. The X-rays showed some unusual porous areas around the knee. Because our vet was not sure what these areas represented we sent the xrays to a radiologist who then reported it was likely a neoplasm but was not a typical presentation of the common bone cancers.
After further diagnostic tests, we found that Charlie had a huge tumor in his chest that ate away a rib and metastasized to his knee. Charlie had been short of breath but we thought it was due to kennel cough (which is common and we see very frequently). WE ended up having to make the decision to euthanize Charlie because it was the humane thing to do, given his respiratory compromise.
We are thankful that Charlie was able to spend his last few weeks loved in the care of NCBR's foster home. He likely had not experienced any love before coming into our program, because, after all, anyone who would dump a dog in a shelter in his condition does not know how to show love or compassion.
Although the outcome with Charlie is not what any of us hoped, we had to expend significant funds to accurately diagnosis his condition. We never want to simply euthanize a dog because it "might" be something bad, so spending funds for diagnosis is important, but we need financial help for these cases also. Please read Charlie's biography on our Rainbow Bridge page.

~Tasha~

Tasha came to us from a shelter after the vet on staff at the shelter performed a cranial cruciate ligament repair. The vet did an extra capsular repair that became grossly infected at the shelter. Tasha then became available as a "rescue only" because of the knee problem and also because Tasha was Heartworm Positive.
We pulled Tasha knowing we had probable major expenses but because her medical issues can be treated with the expectation of a good outcome, we felt she deserved a chance. Due to the severity of the infection and the instability of the repair, Tasha had to have all of the hardware from the repair removed. Now, Tasha will then need to be on another 6 weeks of antibiotics - the last culture showed the only oral antibiotic that the infection was susceptible to Baytril, which is very costly. She is undergoing heartworm treatment.
At the end of the 6 weeks of antibiotics, Tasha will either need a TPLO surgery to fix again fix the cranial cruciate ligament, or we may be forced to amputate that leg. As of 5/2 we have already incurred about $2300.00 caring for Tasha. If we are to save her leg by opting for a TPLO rather than amputation, we must be able to raise at least $2500.00 for Tasha (cost of TPLO surgery).
