Volunteer Spotlight
Marie Callandar
The volunteer of the quarter for NorCal Boxer Rescue is Marie Callandar. Marie has been a volunteer for almost as long as NorCal Boxer Rescue has existed, and in that time has fostered more dogs than we can probably count. Many of these dogs have had extensive medical issues and Marie has spent countless hours at our vets taking care of these issues. She is an integral part of our transport network in the East Bay, helping not only with NorCal Boxer Rescue, but transporting for other breed rescues as well. She is our main contact with the Contra Costa shelters; often meeting shelter volunteers on days the shelter is closed in order to save a boxer in jeopardy.
More recently, Marie has taken on the duties of updating the web site, a job that requires extensive computer work almost every day. She stays on top of the dogs in shelters and in need, as well as NorCal's available dogs and pending adoptions. The web site is very current under Marie's tutelage. Marie is also active in our foster home mentor program, giving sound advice to new foster homes as that home takes in its first boxer. Marie is always willing to help in any arena she is needed – she steps up when NorCal's administrative volunteers need assistance and always follows through on the things she agrees to do. Finally, Marie stays in contact with most of her foster dog adopters – it is always wonderful to get feedback on these Boxers that go from rags to riches.
