Rodney – January, 2010

It’s with a heavy heart that I write this email, but we helped our sweet boy Rodney over the rainbow bridge today. After having a seizure last Thursday morning, his condition continued to decline. The brain disease he was suffering from became too much, even with the medicine, and his condition began to wear on him. Seeing him struggle became too much to bear, and as hard as it was to make the decision, we knew that we had to step up and be his advocate. As we waited for the vet, he settled down in my lap (as he always did when we were home on the couch) and after moving around for some time, he settled in and just relaxed. He could sense that we were struggling with the decision, and he was just letting us know that it was ok. Our time with him was short – 3 years, 3 months – but he brought us a lot of happiness. He was such an amazing dog and we were lucky to have him as part of our family. While you can sense the void in our home, we find peace in knowing that he no longer has to struggle. He can now run free…

I want to thank NCBR and Katlyn and Geoff for giving Rodney a second chance and choosing us for his forever home. We shared so many experiences and created a lot of memories that we will always carry with us. It’s not going to be the same without him…

When I’m ready, I will provide an amazing forever home for another Boxer in need. But right now, I need time to mourn Rodney and reflect back on all of the good times we shared.
