Mae – July 2023

Mae, who became known Mae the Boxer Mayor of All, who was adopted in 2011 passed away 7/6. Mae was believed to be 13+ years old. We originally were interested in another boxer with your rescue, cosmos, but after not hearing back an adoption consultant recommended that we meet Mae.

We were able meet her the very night that we talked to the consultant. My then fiancé and I drove to the fosters house. When we walked in skinny Mae was skittish and growled at my fiancé. The foster told us that Mae was plucked from a high kill shelter with only hours left to live. And though Mae didn’t look like a traditional boxer with her long snout and whip like tail, that on top of her growling might of scared some away, but something about her crooked, hooked tooth smile, and doll like eyes spoke to us! And so we packed her up and took her home.

I’d love to say it was an instant fit, but Mae was young and bouncing from where ever she came from to a foster to us is a lot, and so the eaten couches, and eaten wedding shoes, and lots of accidents in the house was stuff we were just willing to work through. Because Mae was forever for us.

Soon Mae got settled, and our routine was amazing.  She went on trips, and hiking, celebrated holidays and our wedding! After a bit Mae was my constant companion, always keeping me company, so it didn’t seem strange when Mae first started bumping my stomach and laying on top of me. Not realizing that Mae was actually telling us that I was pregnant!! Both times Mae new long before I did! Mae was as close to a human mom as a dog could get. Always looking after all babies and children she came across!!

Mae won over all that she met! There was never a place we took Mae that she wasn’t adored. Mae had 13 wonderful years with our family. She will be remembered forever for all that she filled our life with. We took every opportunity to tell everyone that we could that rescue made this happen, with out NorCal Boxer rescue Mae would have died long before her life had ever began and our life would’ve missed so much love.

Thank you from Mae and the DeRespini for a chance at wonderful life lived.
