What is an estate plan?

An estate plan allows you to control what happens to your assets when you die. Without an estate plan, the laws of the state where you live determine what happens to your assets.  A simple Will or a Living Trust with an accompanying Will are the most common estate planning instruments.   These documents can usually be changed or revoked during your life, so you can modify them as your circumstances change. You should discuss your estate plan with the lawyer of your choosing.

How can I leave a gift to NorCal Boxer Rescue?

If you want to include NorCal Boxer Rescue in your Will or Trust the most common methods are either a “specific gift” or a “residuary gift.

• A specific gift is a gift of a specific dollar amount or a gift of a specific asset such as securities you own.

  • An example of how a specific gift of assets might be phrased is: “I give my stock in ABC company to NorCal Boxer Rescue whose business address is 1520 E. Covell Blvd. B-5, PMB #262, Davis, CA 95616”
• A residuary gift is a gift of all or a percentage of the balance of your estate.
  • An example of how a residuary gift might be phrased is: “I give twenty-five (25%) of the residue of my estate to NorCal Boxer Rescue whose business address is 1520 E. Covell Blvd. B-5, PMB #262, Davis, CA 95616
  • I give the entire residue of my estate to NorCal Boxer Rescue whose business address is 1520 E. Covell Blvd. B-5, PMB #262, Davis, CA 95616 “
