Derby is a sweet, playful, and affectionate little guy who adores his people. He starts his mornings with a burst of joy, proudly parading around with his toys before settling in for a good sunbathe by the window. After a day of walks, playtime, and showing off his signature “Turbo Derbo” zoomies, he’s happiest curled up in your lap, living up to his nickname “Little Love.”
Derby loves being close to his humans, so much so that if you’re in the kitchen, you’ll often find him happily stretched out at your feet, just wanting to be near you. He does amazingly with groups of people and enjoys making friends with dogs his size or larger. Like many Boxers, he can be a little enthusiastic with his greetings, so continued work on his doggy manners will help him shine even more.
Derby is also working on his leash manners. He can be a bit leash reactive out of pure excitement when seeing other dogs, but he’s a smart boy and making progress with training. He especially loves playing with fellow NCBR alum Howie and would likely thrive with a canine sibling who matches his playful but easygoing energy.
Though he does fine in a crate, Derby has also proven to be a trustworthy boy when left with free roam of the house. He’ll simply pick his favorite couch and nap the day away.
Derby is truly the sweetest boy and will make a incredible companion for a family ready to give him the same love he so freely gives.
