Porthos came to NorCal Boxer Rescue over a year ago with a mass on his abdomen and was given hospice status. Against all odds, this remarkable boy has recently received a clean bill of health and is now ready to find the forever home he so deserves.
His foster has cared for many dogs over the years and says Porthos is one of the very best. He is exceptionally well-mannered, easygoing, and a joy to have around. Porthos gets along wonderfully with people, other dogs, and even the resident cat.
He enjoys a leisurely walk or a little playtime in the backyard, but he’s just as happy lounging by the front window watching the world go by, soaking up the sunshine outdoors, or curling up on the couch for a movie night with his favorite people.
Porthos walks nicely on leash, though he can be a little enthusiastic at times. His foster uses a walker and simply stops when he starts to pull, and Porthos quickly settles. He is interested in meeting other people and dogs but remains calm and non-reactive.
Porthos would love a home with a yard where he can indulge in one of his favorite pastimes: sunbathing. He also enjoys keeping an eye on neighborhood activity from a front window or gate. He would do well in a family with older children or tweens and would thrive with adopters who are home much of the time or can include him in their daily adventures.
Because of his previous medical history, Porthos occasionally needs a late-night potty break. An ideal home would allow him access to a dog door or leave his crate door open so he can comfortably take care of business when needed.
After everything he’s been through, Porthos is ready for the happy ending he’s waited so patiently for: a loving family to call his own.
